911 From the Cat in the Hat

I never would have thought to add in a learning moment about 911 based on the book "The Cat in the Hat".  I have been behind on planning our lesson for this week and hurried over to Homeschool Share yesterday to get some ideas in order.  I found the "The Cat in the Hat" lesson plans and knew just what we would be working on the rest of the week.  I loved the colors of the pages and the fun games they tied in.  After going over the plans I noticed a section that said to teach about stranger danger and 911!  What a wonderful thought.  I decided I would take the time to go over this with my children.  I found a great print out of a telephone and used that for them to practice dialing 911.  Then we went over some scenarios about when it is ok to dial 911 and when it is not.  I am so glad that I took the time to go over this with them.  Thank you Homeschool Share for coming up with something that seems so simple to go along with our lesson for the week!

Legal Interest in Pinterest

I just ran across a blog article about the legal aspects of Pinterest.  It really has me concerned about all of my boards and if I am in any danger of being sued over my pins.  I am trying to decide what to do and I plan to educate myself better before making a decision to take down my boards.  I will post a link to the article I read so that you may be informed as well.  I would love your feedback on this issue.

In 5, 4, 3, ....

The blog is now live with the new changes!!!  I love the look of it (for now!) and hope to get some positive feed back.  I plan to blog more often about the comings and goings of our journey.  Maybe it will help motivate me in other areas of my life as well.  I would love to hear the reactions you have to the new look.

Coming Soon

I have been working on a new look for the blog tonight. As soon as I get everything ready the changes will go live! I can't wait!

Looking good!

Over the past few weeks I have been working on decluttering and reorganizing the classroom.  I have really accomplised a lot and I am so excited with how it is going.  I just purchased some new material over the weekend that is fun and has a cute school theme to it, to create some new window treatments and recover the cushions on the chairs in here that the kids have at their desks.  I have been weeding out books and decided that less is more.  I will make a list of what we have and keep out several for reading fun, and for learning.  The rest go in a tub under a bed and each month they will be rotated so we wont get bored.  S has really started to enjoy reading and asks for new readers almost each time we are out.  I cannot say no to that!  After buying several over the weekend we have agreed that if she reads 2 a week until she has read through each of the ones she has that she can start getting more again.  I think she likes that agreement.  I hope to get the new curtains done soon and I plan to post pictures of the new room!!!

We Won!

I am so excited about what just came in the mail today!  A little over a week ago I received an email that we had won a copy of The New Millennium Girls Creative Writing Curriculum!  I never win anything.  I was stoked.  I had entered the giveaway at Hip Homeschool Moms blog for their birthday celebration.  We have been trying to find a good book for S and I to read together.  This set is perfect.  Not only do we have the book but we have the creative writing book and paper dolls that go along with it for you to make your own story.  I know this is a bit advanced but I am sure that together we can make it work.  I look forward to using it and seeing what it holds for us!
